mereka menyuruh dia mengucapkan kata "Syibolet". Ia akan mengatakan "Sibolet" karena tidak dapat mengucapkan kata itu dengan tepat. Lalu mereka akan menangkapnya dan membunuhnya di salah satu tempat penyeberangan itu. Maka terbunuhlah 42.000 orang Efraim pada waktu itu.

maka mereka berkata kepadanya: "Coba katakan dahulu: syibolet." Jika ia berkata: sibolet, jadi tidak dapat mengucapkannya dengan tepat, maka mereka menangkap dia dan menyembelihnya dekat tempat-tempat penyeberangan sungai Yordan itu. Pada waktu itu tewaslah dari suku Efraim empat puluh dua ribu orang.
