Yosafat membuat kapal-kapal Tarsis untuk mengambil emas dari Ofir, tetapi kapal-kapal itu tidak jadi berlayar karena rusak di Ezion-Geber. Raja Ahazia dari Israel menawarkan supaya awak kapalnya berlayar bersama-sama dengan awak kapal Yosafat, tetapi Yosafat menolak meskipun ia mempunyai hubungan yang baik dengan raja Israel. Kemudian Yosafat meninggal dan dimakamkan di pekuburan raja-raja di kota Daud. Yoram anaknya menjadi raja menggantikan dia. Kisah lainnya mengenai Yosafat, mengenai kepahlawanannya dan pertempuran-pertempurannya dicatat dalam buku Sejarah Raja-raja Yehuda. Pada zaman itu negeri Edom tidak mempunyai raja.
